German organist and piano teacher. He studied in Dresden and Leipzig. In 1779, he became the head of the music department at Halle University, later serving as a professor. In addition to writing piano textbooks for his students, he left behind works such as Symphonies, Cantatas, and 48 Sonatas for clavier.
