A short piece composed by Pascal for Marguerite Long's "La Petite Méthode de piano" (The Little Piano Method), published in her later years. Pascal was a conservative French composer of the modern era and a winner of the Prix de Rome, particularly known for his refined instrumental music. This piece likely depicts the scene of small ripples spreading across a calm water surface. It is in 3/4 time, marked Modéré, sans lenteur (moderately, without slowness), and in C major.
An easy piece playable by students in the first half of Beyer. It serves as practice for playing smoothly with legato in both hands, while being aware of their different roles. While Long's method primarily focuses on fundamental finger training, a significant feature is that, in addition to Pascal, many distinguished composers have each contributed unique short pieces.
- Mompou: "On Tiptoe"
- Milhaud: "Exercise"
- Daniel-Lesur: "The Bells of Place Vendôme"
- Daniel-Lesur: "Pastoral Song"
- Jolivet: "Caribbean Dance"
- Dutilleux: "All Roads Lead to Rome"
- Auric: "Little March"
- Françaix: "The Commander and the Captain's Rock and Roll"
These pieces, among others, were first published here. In 2009, a collection titled "Album de Marguerite" was also released, featuring only the short pieces (20 works by 17 composers) extracted from the method book. It deserves renewed attention.
