Born in Kobe in 1961. A musician, media artist, and media theory researcher. He has created numerous compositions and performance works using real-time synthesis of singing voices, which he developed independently. He is also active in the artificial voice unit "Formant Brothers" with Masahiro Miwa. He actively publishes media essays on voice and machines, as well as research on the function of sound in film. His works include the books "Max no Kyokasho" (Max Textbook) and "2061: Max Odyssey" (co-authored with Masayuki Akamatsu), and the solo CD "Tokeijikake no Hermes" (Clockwork Hermes). He is a Professor at the Department of Moving Image and Media Arts, Nagoya University of Arts and Sciences.
