Completed his Master's degree in Electrical Engineering at Waseda University in 1978. In the same year, he joined Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Public Corporation (now NTT). Since then, he has been engaged in various acoustic research. He studied composition under the late Setsuo Kai and Daishiro Tagusari. Since 1990, leveraging the results of his sound synthesis research, he has created music using morphing sounds and composed music using the music production software "Okkinshai." His major works include "Sound Weaving" for piano and two computers (1998), "Ki-bi Takibi..." for orchestra and computer (2009), and "Oto no Oto" for orchestra (2014). He has organized numerous computer music projects, including the NTT Computer Music Symposium ('97, '01), Keihanna Media Festival ('01-'04), and Media Project ('07-). He participated in ICMC 1993 and 2003. From 2002 to 2009, he served as a board member for the Asia-Oceania region of ICMA (International Computer Music Association). He holds a Ph.D. in Engineering. Since 2003, he has been a Professor at Tokyo Denki University. He is also the President of the Japan Society for Sonic Arts (JSSA).
