Professor, Graduate School of Information Science and Technology, Hokkaido University. Engaged in research and education on representation and processing algorithms for large-scale discrete structured data. Completed doctoral program at Kyoto University Graduate School. Ph.D. (Engineering). Worked at NTT Laboratories from 1990 to 2003. Visiting Researcher at Stanford University, USA (1 year) in 1997. Appointed Associate Professor at Hokkaido University in April 2004, and Professor from October 2010. Author of "Binary Decision Diagrams and Applications for VLSI CAD" (Kluwer, 1995), among others. Exhibited at the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation (Miraikan) Media Lab 11th Exhibition "Fukashigi no Kazekata (How to Count the Unfathomable)" from August 2012 to April 2013. Senior Member of The Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers (IEICE), Senior Member of Information Processing Society of Japan (IPSJ), Member of IEEE, Member of The Japanese Society for Artificial Intelligence (JSAI).
