Profile
Born in Tokyo in 1958. He studied composition at the Berlin University of the Arts and the Robert Schumann Hochschule. From the late 1980s, he has presented numerous works using a method called algorithmic composition, which employs computers. He has received numerous awards, including first prize at the 10th Irino Prize in 1989, the Akutagawa Award for Music Composition in 2004, the Grand Prix (Golden Nica) at Prix Ars Electronica in 2007, and the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award for Fine Arts in 2010. His recent works include "Masahiro Miwa's Musical Art: All Thoughts 1998-2010," as well as numerous CDs such as "Muramatsu Gear (The Rite of Spring)" and published scores. He was a former member of "Methodism" (Hōhōshugi). He is the elder brother of "Formant Brothers." He is a Professor at the Institute of Advanced Media Arts and Sciences (IAMAS).
