After graduating from the Musicology Major, Department of Humanities, Faculty of Letters, Osaka University, completed the Master's and Doctoral Programs at the Graduate School of Letters of the same university. In 2006, received the Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarship and undertook short-term study in the Ph.D. program (Musicology) at the University of Kansas. Subsequently, obtained a Master's degree from the University of Miami and a Ph.D. from Indiana University (Folklore and Ethnomusicology). Currently, Associate Professor at Kyoto City University of Arts. Member of the Musicological Society of Japan, the Japan Society for Pop Music Studies, the Japan Society for Jewish Studies, and the Society for Ethnomusicology.
