Rocherolle is an American of French descent, and having studied in Paris, she is strongly influenced by French music. However, her works typically bear English titles, and tempo and musical terms generally use common Italian or English. In this work, however, French notation is exceptionally adopted due to its dedication to the memory of her French in-laws (In memory of "mon beau-père et ma belle-mère," Guy Jacques and Monique Lyon Rocherolle): Prélude I. Léger, sans presser (lightly, without rushing) 4/4 | Prélude II. Tranquille et expressif (calmly, expressively) 12/8 | Prélude III. Vif et précis (fast and precise) 4/4. The musical character is also structured in a French Impressionistic style, evoking the delicate hues of pastel colors. Although there are moments in the final movement where bold chords resonate, a certain restraint is maintained, and the music never becomes overly agitated. The difficulty level is approximately midway between Debussy's Children's Corner and Suite bergamasque.
