Yamada's second sonata, written as an assignment during his studies in Berlin.
The autograph manuscript states: "Began November 17, finished 24, [1911]."
Although it originally comprised three movements, only the first movement has been found. The program for the 19th Concert of the Music Encouragement Society, "Yamada Abend," held at the Kazoku Kaikan (Peers' Club) on January 30, 1916, states the following:
This sonata was composed as a school assignment starting around December 1911. It was completed on January 24, 1912. It consists of three movements.
- (i) As indicated in the title of the piece I wrote, it expresses an extremely cheerful and lighthearted feeling.
- (ii) In this movement, a quietly singing sentiment is directly expressed.
- (iii) This movement expresses an energetic and decisive feeling.
First Movement: Sehr schnell
