The suite "El Camí" (The Path), consisting of four movements, was composed between 1920 and 1923 and premiered by Ricardo Viñes in 1927. This ambitious work marks a departure from Blancafort's previous miniature-like style, significantly broadening his expressive range while retaining a simple lyricism. It is dedicated to his compatriot and friend, the composer Mompou.
1. El Camí de la Soledat (The Path of Solitude)
Slowly, introspectively. B minor. A light, dance-like episode is inserted between repetitions of an elegiac theme.
2. El Camí de la Festa sense Joia (The Path of the Joyless Festival)
Slowly, lamenting. E minor. A poignant cantabile melody is deeply impressive. In the middle section, a light, soaring motif appears.
3. El Camí del Darrer Trobament (The Path of the Last Encounter)
Fast - very lively. B minor. A dynamic piece with frequent tempo changes and a wide pitch range. The song inserted in between is beautiful.
4. El Camí de la Muntanya (The Path of the Mountain)
Fast, cheerful. B major. In contrast to the previous dark atmosphere, this movement features a brilliant sound evoking bright sunlight. The pp sonore dynamic marking at the end is characteristic.
