This prelude allows for various interpretations. For instance, imagine it played on a pipe organ, envisioning a grand and majestic prelude of large scale. Alternatively, if you conceive of it as a string ensemble, the imagery shifts entirely.
In either case, when considering the piece divided into measures 1-4 and 5-8, the highest note, G in measure 2, gradually descends and diminishes until measure 5. From measure 5, the volume can gradually increase, either peaking at measure 6 or building towards a peak at measure 8.
For the Allegro, articulation is crucial. The atmosphere changes depending on how the three eighth notes in the left hand are performed. While playing them legato is certainly permissible, this Allegro is not a pessimistic piece; even though written in a minor key, it possesses a certain joy. Playing the three eighth notes staccato and lightly would also be effective. Similarly, the three eighth notes in the right hand should also be played lightly with staccato.
