While "ritornello" is a form in Baroque music, here it is used in the sense of "a short piece with a recurring theme." It consists of five short pieces, each spanning two pages. While considering learners by minimizing the use of octaves, it successfully creates a modern sound through the frequent use of seconds, fourths, and sevenths. The elegant musical character from the first to the fourth piece takes a dramatic turn in the fifth piece, unfolding splendidly with bold chords resonating fully. Although the score, being shared with harp solo, lacks articulation markings, the musical ideas are clear, leaving little room for interpretive ambiguity. There is also an arrangement (published in 1979) of excerpts from the second, third, and fourth pieces for clarinet quartet. Compared to works like Trilogie, which are advertised for beginners and have a reduced number of notes, this work seems to allow for more uninhibited playing, precisely because the transitions between modulations are easier to grasp. It is an excellent collection suitable for a wide range of uses, from recitals to full-scale stage performances.
