There are two types of Courante: the French type, which developed in France, and the Italian Corrente. This piece, being a French Courante in 3/2 time, should not be played at a fast tempo. Furthermore, attempting to execute the numerous written ornaments at a fast tempo would be impractical. Please choose a slow tempo.
In the first half, the highest note in the soprano voice is G, appearing three times. While opinions may vary, the G on the second beat of measure 9 is likely the most climactic, as it is reached by a large leap; therefore, the volume around this point may be substantial.
The highest note in the second half is C in measure 19. This section features finer note values and increased tension. In measure 18, the half note B appears on the first beat; this is the final note of the ascending soprano sequence beginning in measure 15, so it should be played with a large volume, maintaining that volume into measure 19.
