Suite "Even Be Hot"
The suite "Even Be Hot" (which can also mean "It could be hot") was written for the Beethoven: Complete Piano Sonatas Cycle on nine different fortepianos (Kyoto Museum Hall). It was commissioned and premiered by Hiroaki Ooi on an Anton Walter model fortepiano, tuned to 430Hz=1/8PC.
Movement titles such as "Even (more appropriately) Be Hot (cool, very close to correct)" are an anagram of "Beethoven."
Considering the following points:
- "Rather than creating music as a palate cleanser, I thought about engaging with Beethoven on the same vector."
- "I don't know academic composition methods."
- "I cannot create music like Beethoven from scratch."
- "There are limits to phrases I can conceive myself."
- "I want to automatically create strange phrases."
- "I want it to be more pop, not like contemporary music."
The composer applied bold cut-up and collage techniques to MIDI data of Beethoven's Op. 14 (2 pieces), Op. 22, and Op. 49 (2 pieces), which were coupled in the same concert, arranging them into seven short pieces.
The composer stated, "I would be happy if listeners could experience a feeling like 'strolling down a path and suddenly finding yourself in a strange place while feeling a sense of déjà vu.'"
