This movement requires free improvisation, and it is a movement where one should actively employ tempo rubato or the stretching of timing. As the piece modulates to G minor, C minor, B-flat major, D minor, etc., please change the mood and character accordingly each time.
The first six measures are for the orchestra, and the solo is expected to enter from the off-beat of the second beat of measure 6. Unusually, a forte dynamic marking is written on the score here. Since the orchestral part rests until the off-beat of the second beat of measure 7, this solo should be considerably emphasized.
Measures 11-14 and 15-18 should be considered as long sequences of four-measure units, and the tension should be increased in measures 15-18 more than in measures 11-14.
Measures 21-22 and 23-24 are also ascending sequences, and the tension similarly increases, but ultimately, the mood returns to a calm one with a B-flat major cadence.
