The piece is structured in A-B-A'-Coda form. Play brightly and energetically, with a light touch on the dotted rhythms. Differentiate between dotted eighth notes with and without staccato. Following the opening two-measure phrase, the third measure introduces a 2+1 three-measure phrase, humorously suggesting a 'whoa, whoa, whoa...' brake applied to the cheerfully dancing acorn's feet (?), with a rit. Regaining momentum, the dance of the opening two measures is rhythmically reintroduced a tempo from measure 6, but the tonality quickly shifts to E minor from measure 8. As the melody in the high register builds tension, the piece immediately plunges into the f melody of the B section in the left hand. Here, the dotted rhythms are energetic, pushing forward with strength. Measure 17 features characteristic off-beat accents, creating a sense of weight as it leads into measure 18, beats 1 and 2. Measure 18, beats 3 and 4, sound like an echo of beats 1 and 2. In the subsequent A' section, perceive the long phrase extending from measure 21 to measure 28, beat 3. Just when the acorns seem to have run out of energy with the pp fermata in measure 33, they suddenly awaken in the final two measures with a più mosso (faster than before), bringing the piece to a close.
