Under the title, "Opposition des nuances" (Conflicting Nuances) is stated as the central theme of this piece. In ballet, the entrance music is called an "entrée," and this motif truly evokes a performer appearing from behind the stage curtain. This motif, only at the beginning and in bar 12, is an anacrusis, starting its melody from the third beat. It's interesting, as if the performer couldn't wait two beats before making an appearance. It would be effective to translate the crisp, agile movements of a ballet dancer into sound during performance. The left-hand part in bars 5 and 17, which represents the "conflicting nuance" against the unison forte theme, if played regularly and subtly quietly, like the swing of a pendulum, will effectively portray a contrasting nuance.
