Written in 2/4 time, and for instance, sequences ascend or descend in one-measure units (e.g., mm. 42-46). From these characteristics, it is a fugue that logically benefits from a somewhat faster tempo.
Furthermore, this fugue contains several peak points, towards which a sense of direction can be established. The highest note in this fugue is B, appearing in mm. 49, 90, 120, 132, and 174 respectively. While peak points cannot be determined solely by pitch, a B reached with progressively increasing tension can certainly be considered a peak point.
Moreover, regarding articulation, it is desirable to proceed with a relatively staccato and energetic feel. Therefore, continuous eighth notes that are not part of 16th-note groupings or tuplets can be articulated staccato to prevent a heavy sensation.
