Composed in parallel with the Piano Concerto No. 2. It is believed to have been premiered on March 29, 1795, at Beethoven's Vienna debut concert held by the Vienna Artists' Society, under the direction of Salieri.
First Movement: Allegro con brio, C major, 4/4 time
The theme is clear, characterized by the repetition of the tonic note and an ascending scale. After a long tutti, the piano enters with an elegant, varied figuration of the second theme, which serves as a foreshadowing for the third movement.
Second Movement: Largo, A-flat major, 2/2 time
It is characterized by the warm timbre of the wind instruments, consisting only of clarinets, horns, and bassoons. The movement is in ternary form, with the piano expressively singing a beautiful melody.
Third Movement: Rondo, Allegro, C major, 2/4 time
A rondo form where a bright and lively theme reappears multiple times.
