While this Gigue is performed at various tempos by different players, the author believes that the Gigue itself is fundamentally a 'movement that may convey a busy impression,' suggesting that a somewhat faster tempo would be preferable. The theme of this Gigue invariably begins with a pair consisting of one sixteenth note and one eighth note (e.g., C and G at the beginning). Pairs of a dotted eighth note and a sixteenth note, among others, can be found in almost every measure. However, while the intervals of other pairs of one sixteenth note and one eighth note are either stepwise or a third apart, the interval of the first pair of one sixteenth note and one eighth note in a phrase is always a fourth or wider.
Therefore, for instance, the G in the right hand on the first beat of measure 4 should not be considered the beginning of a phrase, but rather the concluding note of the theme from measure 1. Subsequently, from the second beat, the aforementioned 'pair of one sixteenth note and one eighth note separated by a 4th or 5th' initiates a new theme; hence, it would be logical to play the dotted eighth note G on the first beat of measure 4 as the final note of the phrase, marked p.
Up to measure 31 in the first half, you may increase the volume as the right and left hands move further apart. From around measure 23, a gradual crescendo would be appropriate.
In the second half, have you noticed an increase in the 'pairs of one sixteenth note and one eighth note separated by a 4th or 5th'? Furthermore, in these 'pairs of one sixteenth note and one eighth note separated by a 4th or 5th,' the pitches are inverted, with the sixteenth note appearing in a lower position. This increases the tension. The final sixteenth notes further heighten the tension.
