Bourrée
The term "Bourrée" means "to flap wings" or "flutter," and in this era, it is considered a fast dance in duple meter. The form of this Bourrée is ABA, and the theme appears four times. The piece is very simply structured, with no particular peak points. When playing this type of piece, it is effective to devise variations in articulation and dynamics.
Since the theme appears four times, instead of playing it all the same way, try varying it (it will appear eight times if repetitions are observed). For example:
- Begin measures 1-4 piano and measures 5-8 forte (or vice versa).
- Alternatively, play measures 1-4 legato and measures 5-8 staccato (or vice versa) to create such distinctions.
The middle section is where the tension slightly increases, so it is effective to crescendo towards measure 14 and play forte, then return to piano from measure 17.
As another performance technique, when performing repetitions, it can be effective to prioritize and bring out the left-hand voice more prominently on the second time.
