Each phrase is structured as 2 bars + 2 bars + 4 bars. For example, one phrase spans bars 1-2, and another spans bars 3-4. At the end of each phrase, a note of longer duration—in this example, a half note—is consistently written. Since bars 5-8 are considered a single unit of 4 bars, a dotted half note is found in bar 8. In other words, it is generally assumed that long notes do not appear in the middle of a phrase (notes written as inner voices or as pedal points are exceptions). If the music is structured such that the tension escalates in the subsequent two bars compared to the initial two, culminating in the highest tension in the following four bars, the entire construction becomes logically coherent. The entire piece is divided into four sections: bars 1-8, 9-16, 17-24, and 25-32. Among these, please consider the third section, bars 17-24, which modulates to C minor, as having the highest tension.
