Since this Courante is in 3/2 time, it is a French-style Courante and should not be played at an excessively fast tempo. The time signature also indicates 6/4 time next to the 3/2 time, which should be interpreted as a duple meter.
Although this score contains 12 eighth notes per measure, measures notated as triple meter (e.g., m. 9), where four notes constitute one beat (x3), and measures notated as duple meter (e.g., m. 15), where six notes constitute one beat (x2), are intermingled. Since there are measures that feel like duple meter and measures that feel like triple meter, it is advisable to feel the beat as indicated for each.
There are also measures where it is difficult to determine whether they are in duple or triple meter. For example, in measure 12, the treble clef and alto part contain one eighth rest and three eighth notes, which might lead one to assume a triple meter. However, when actually performing this measure, it becomes difficult to perceive the third beat, and it feels more natural to interpret it in duple meter.
Performers should try playing it and count the beats in a way that feels natural to them.
