Doyo Hyakkyokushu (One Hundred Children's Songs) was written by Kosaku Yamada from his late 30s to his 40s and published between 1927 and 1929. Although titled "children's songs," they are difficult for children to sing, and one can sense an adult's perspective, reflecting on their own childhood or observing young children. In Karasu no Ban, Suzume no Ban (Crow's Turn, Sparrow's Turn), the song depicts a crow and a sparrow frozen in place, unable to read each other's movements after their eyes meet.
Umibozu Kobozu refers to a yokai (supernatural being) said to live in the sea.
It is said to appear at night, causing the previously calm sea surface to suddenly swell, revealing a giant with a black, shaven head who then destroys ships.
