Founded in 1980. Hiroko Shikishima, Permanent Honorary Orchestra Representative, advocated for "Music that satisfies both listeners and performers!" Their performances, which always deeply move audiences, have been described as "a cry from the soul" and "the sound of passion." In April 2010, the orchestra's name was changed to "Osaka Symphony Orchestra." In April 2012, the support organization and the orchestra were integrated, becoming the General Incorporated Association Osaka Symphony Orchestra, and in November 2018, it became a Public Interest Incorporated Association.
Yuzo Toyama, the doyen of the Japanese music scene, assumed the role of Music Advisor from April 2016, and further, Honorary Conductor from April 2020. Additionally, from April 2019, Gen Ota (who won second prize and the Audience Award at the 17th Tokyo International Music Competition <Conducting> in 2015) was appointed Principal Conductor, and further development of the orchestra is anticipated.
