Born in Sichuan Province, China, he is a composer and pianist. In 1948, he enrolled in the music department of Sichuan Art College, and in 1951, he transferred to the composition department of Shanghai Conservatory of Music. After graduation, he served as the dean at Harbin Normal University. In addition to his compositional activities, he also engaged in music education and research into music theory.
