Born in Halifax, Canada, in 1980. After studying at Wilfrid Laurier University, Guildhall School of Music & Drama (UK), and York University, he came to Japan as a Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) scholar and studied composition under Jo Kondo at Tokyo University of the Arts. His representative works include the mono-opera Matsumushi (2014), Uki koto kikanu tokoro ari ya for Japanese instrument quintet (2017), Spectra for voice, biwa, and sho, dedicated to Kazuo Ohno, and the shakuhachi concerto Kusareshi Yami, among others. His works have been performed by ensembles such as the Bozzini Quartet, Musiques Nouvelles, Orchestre National de Lorraine, Ensemble Muromachi, and by performers including Satoko Inoue (piano), Junko Ueda (biwa), the Arnold Schoenberg Chamber Orchestra, and the York University Chamber Orchestra. In 2018, he received the 3rd Toshi Ichiyanagi Contemporary Award. Currently, he serves as Artistic Director of the music theatre "Kobo Sabi", a member of the composer collective "Music Without Borders", and a part-time lecturer at Showa University of Music.
