Graduated from Toho Gakuen School of Music, Department of Conducting. He furthered his studies in Berlin and Munich, and has guest conducted orchestras such as the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne, Czech Philharmonic, and Moscow Radio Symphony Orchestra. In 2001, he was appointed General Music Director (GMD) of the Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen in Germany, successfully leading their Japan tour. Domestically, he has maintained a close relationship with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra since 1994, serving as Principal Conductor and Special Guest Conductor. In fiscal year 2006, he received the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's Art Encouragement Prize for New Artists. From 2007, he served as Music Director of the Yamagata Symphony Orchestra, then as Artistic Director, and since 2022, as Conductor Laureate of the same orchestra. He is also Music Director of Pacific Philharmonia Tokyo, Principal Conductor of Japan Century Symphony Orchestra, Resident Conductor of Izumi Sinfonietta Osaka, Principal Guest Conductor of Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra, and Principal Guest Conductor of Chubu Philharmonic Orchestra. He is scheduled to assume the position of Resident Conductor of the Gunma Symphony Orchestra from April 2023.
