This is a single-movement violin sonata composed by Koda Nobu after her return from studying in Vienna. Moderato, D minor. Although largely complete, it contained some unfinished sections, which were supplemented and completed by composer Shin-ichiro Ikebe and first published in 2006. In the preface to the score, Ikebe wrote, “Through the work of supplementing and editing, I was once again struck by Koda Nobu's talent. That she accomplished such a work at a time when the musical foundation could be said to be non-existent is nothing short of astonishing.” In the melodic phrasing and spacing, a 'singing heart' (utagokoro) unique to Japanese sensibilities, which cannot be fully contained within the framework of Western music, breathes.
