Contained in Volume 3 of 'Nouveaux musiciens' (Young Musicians), a collection of piano pieces for learners supervised by Lucette Descaves. Descaves was a specialist in contemporary music, known as the premiere performer of Jolivet's Concerto for Ondes Martenot and Orchestra. Her contributions as an educator were also significant. Tansman's work is a short piece spanning two pages (a double-page spread). It has an ABA three-part form. The outer sections (A) are marked Allegro moderato, in 4/4 time, and in C major. The musical character is clear and lively. As is typical for an educational piece, it also aims for the separation of the five fingers of the right hand. The middle section (B) shifts to Lento and A minor, creating a poignant expression that contrasts well with section A. It is an accessible piece, comparable in difficulty to Czerny Op. 299 (The School of Velocity).
