Consists of five short pieces, each one or two pages long. Composed at a difficulty level comparable to Czerny's Op. 29 (30 Etudes de Mécanisme), it is characterized by a melancholic and mature musical character, with a dominant interplay of light and shadow. While classified as general piano works in Gérald Hugon's supervised Tansman catalogue (Catalogue de l’oeuvre d’Alexandre Tansman / Max Eschig 1995, print edition), its classification was changed to children's works (Oeuvres pour les enfants) in the 2012 revised electronic edition of the same catalogue. Indeed, it can be said that this work is positioned precisely between educational and general works, both in terms of technique and content. Its rich sonorities, romantic character, and rewarding playability make it suitable not only for lessons but also for stage performances.
