I conceived this piece from the desire to express the energy hidden deep within the heart, not as a dance or a march, but as something full of forward momentum and dynamism. When the score was first released, the tempo was set at approximately dotted quarter note = 60 (this was indicated in the first edition); however, you are free to interpret it without being bound by this. Choose a tempo that allows for the expression of a capriccio or scherzando atmosphere. The choice of tempo also varies depending on age and expressive ability. It is in a three-part form consisting of an exotic A section, a tranquil B section, and an A' section recapitulated over a second inversion of the tonic chord.
