As an homage to Alfredo Casella, this piece is modeled after his early Parisian work "Berceuse triste" Op. 14 (1909). The title combines Casella's "Barcarolle" Op. 15 and the fifth piece, "Mode exotique," from his "9 Pezzi" Op. 24. Like the original, it is a work for harp or piano. It is the fifth piece in the series "Hommage à Apollon," which honors eight modern Italian composers. This series also has a hidden aspect, representing the eight attendants of Fudō Myōō (Acala). Among them, this piece corresponds to Ukubaga Dōji. The term "exotique" (異国, exotic/foreign land) implies "otherworld" (異界, other realm). (2021.4.4) Kanazawa Osamu
