Third Movement: Rondo vivace

E-flat major, 6/8 time, Rondo form. It follows the most classical rondo form structure, where the main theme (A) recurs after each of the three episodes (B, C, D), resulting in the pattern A-B-A-C-A-D-A. The theme is an 8-measure, light and woodwind-like melody.

The first episode (from m. 9) begins in E-flat major, following the theme, and modulates to B-flat major in its virtuosic latter half.

The second episode (from m. 45) also begins in E-flat major, like the theme, but features strong octaves in the left hand and a vivid contrast between forte and piano.

The cadenza-like right hand (from m. 56) possesses technical brilliance, and the sudden appearance of E-flat minor at m. 63 offers a glimpse into Beethoven's passion, striking the listener with surprise.

The third episode (from m. 80) is in C minor. This is a key that holds significant meaning for Beethoven, as it is also used in his later Piano Sonata No. 8, “Pathétique,” and Symphony No. 5, “Fate.”
