The key of E-flat major, as found in works like Inventions and Sinfonias, can be perceived as having an optimistic character, yet it also possesses immense beauty, such as in the Allemande of the French Suite. Consider this key to be dignified, optimistic, and calm.
This Prelude also features numerous sequences, not only in the sheer number of sequence sections but also because each sequence pattern is written over a longer span than usual. For instance, the peak point of this Prelude is the C note appearing in the highest register in measure 43; the sequence leading to this C begins from measure 32, thus tracing a long sequence of 11 measures. Performers should gradually build tension and reach the highest C.
Furthermore, this Prelude expresses the emotion of "anticipation." The ascending sequence from measures 57-60
elegantly depicts a sense of expectation or a swelling of emotion towards something.
The tempo should be set to one that is neither too fast nor too slow, allowing for the expression of joy while maintaining a sense of calm.
