No. 3 "In Canon at the Octave" - Quite lively - A major
A graceful two-voice canon with a concise and lively introduction and postlude. The two melodies are accompanied by chords in the bass and middle register, but it is important to always ensure that the melodies remain independent and prominent.
No. 6 "Barcarolle" - Quite slowly - G minor
Although the writing is very simple, consisting of melody plus accompaniment, great care should be taken with the nuance indications and the subtle changes in the melody (especially the B-flat and E-flat notes in the middle section) to avoid monotony in performance. Pedal indications are only partially present, but considering the performance effect, the absence of a symbol does not always mean "pedal off." Furthermore, taking into account the characteristics of today's instruments, which have less resonance than those of the time, performers are encouraged to devise expressions appropriate for their own instruments, such as using a light pedal even in sections without pedal markings.
