Heller: A Curious Story

The 9th piece from Album for the Young, Op. 138 (1874). In F major. 2/4 time. The theme, including a sixteenth rest, rhythmically descends one octave. From measure 17, it modulates to A minor. From measure 33, a rhythm including a sixteenth rest is used to return to the F major theme, and from measure 41, the theme recurs in the tonic key. From measure 57, a cadenza-like episode is presented, and from measure 89, it becomes a coda, concluding with triplet arpeggios descending from the high register to the low register.
