Although it is a short, improvisatory movement, it possesses a grandeur reminiscent of a pipe organ. From this point, I will express a truly personal opinion. I state this with the understanding that many may not agree.
In the chord on the third beat of measure 1, the right hand contains E and F, which creates a dissonant "clash" sound. As a suggestion:
- Arpeggiate the right hand to mitigate the clash.
- Play the E as softly as possible (pp) to mitigate the clash.
- Omit the E to mitigate the clash.
Any of these options is considered desirable. The author would choose option 3.
The peak point of this movement is the last half-note chord in measure 3, which becomes the dominant of D minor. Alternatively, it is the section between beats 1 and 2 of measure 3, where the soprano reaches its highest note, C. Please choose one of these. Although the second beat of measure 2 also reaches a high note, the dominant is written in first inversion, which gives it a less settled feeling, and it creates a forward-moving flow (with the bass moving towards D). Therefore, the focus is more on measure 3 than on this point.
