While this piece certainly has a theme, the cadential (final) sections are ambiguous, so let's first focus on these. Since the key or 'color' changes at the cadences, using these as turning points to divide the piece into several sections will make the performance much clearer.
I would like to draw your attention to measure 6. Please remember this melodic figure. If you look for similar passages, you will find them in measure 24, then measure 34, and finally measure 62.
Measure 24 is where the modulation to D minor occurs. Measure 34 is a cadence returning to G minor, and measure 62 is also a cadence returning to G minor. After measure 24, the music proceeds through a harmonic sequence to return smoothly to G minor. However, from measure 34, it ultimately serves as preparation for the B-flat major section starting from measure 38. This B-flat major section can be considered the only optimistic part of this piece, so please change the 'color' after the cadence in measure 34.
After each cadence, I believe it is acceptable to take just a brief moment (a breath) before proceeding.
