The illustration depicting a leopard with gleaming eyes in the darkness also makes an impact. The composer writes "calmly" (おちついて) at the beginning. At the opening, play mysteriously, as if your steps come to a sudden halt on the 5th beat, and listen for the momentary silence after the stop. The tenuto in measures 3-4 should be played with a full sound, ensuring that chords are not slurred together. In measures 5-6, follow the indicated hairpin crescendos and decrescendos, and try to express a sense of something approaching, not only through dynamics but also through a manipulation of tempo. From measure 9, it is poco a poco cresc. A light crescendo with alternating left and right hand rhythms over three beats (beats 3, 4, and 5) then leads to a sudden ff in measure 11, achieved with four beats of alternating left and right hand rhythms. Play energetically. From measure 14, the music becomes dolce, regaining a sense of calm, but the right hand continues the previous texture, written in two voices. Listen carefully and play so that the dotted half notes in the inner voice do not become too short. The end of the piece features a very dramatic and striking chordal sound, creating a sense of surprise.
