Premiered by Rikuya Terashima in Tokyo on June 14, 2002. This piece was composed for a concert in Tokyo featuring "Arirang," primarily organized by composer Hikaru Hayashi and others. As the title suggests, it is a freely structured fantasy based on the famous Arirang melody. I cannot recall when I first encountered this nostalgic Oriental melody, but it was certainly during my boyhood in Osaka, before the age of ten. I believe it is a beautiful melody that deeply resonated even with a child's heart.
