This fugue does not have a particularly prominent peak point; even the highest note, C (measure 18), is not reached through a gradual build-up, but merely appears incidentally when the key modulates to E-flat major. In other words, the overall register (range) of this fugue is limited, and within this range, the notes move without revealing points resembling dramatic peak points.
The theme (subject) appears continuously, almost without pause, one after another. When performing this type of fugue, attention should be paid to the following:
- Ensuring that the overall dynamics do not become flat.
- Additionally, differentiating between the many themes.
By distinguishing between themes that are high in tension for the performer and those that are not, and by varying the timbre and volume each time, an organ-like color can be achieved.
Various forms of the theme appear, including complete and fragmentary ones, but even when they are fragmentary, clearly articulating them can bring out the interest of the piece.
