This sarabande consists of six phrases, each four measures long.
These are measures 1-4, 5-8, 9-12, 13-16, 17-20, and 21-24. In each phrase, except for the final one (21-24), a 32nd note consistently appears on the first beat of the first measure. This should not be played loosely; rather, it should be compressed and played with a tight rhythm. This is a characteristic feature of this sarabande.
While the interpretation of this is left to the performer, it can be understood as having a somewhat severe, sharp tone. Following this, there are moments of calmness, contrasting with the atmosphere of the first measure, as seen in measure 2, for example. There are also measures (phrases) like measure 6, which extends the atmosphere of measure 5, as seen in measures 5-6.
In any case, the important thing is to vary the expression of these six phrases through a diverse range of timbres and dynamics. Be careful not to play all phrases in the same way. There are phrases that convey a sense of sadness or severity, such as measures 9-12, and conversely, phrases that return to a calm state, such as measures 21-24. Consider the psychological state of each phrase.
