Entrée, pronounced 'on-tray' or 'ahn-tray,' translates from French as 'entrance' or 'entry.' Though a two-part invention, it is filled with dignity and majesty. The tempo should be set such that the 32nd notes in measures 18-19 can be played comfortably, so it will not be an excessively fast tempo.
A useful hint for performing this Entrée is the concept of 'moving away from songfulness.' This means that instead of playing the voices with a legato, singing quality, the rhythm should be precisely articulated like a metronome, without wavering. The voices should be non-legato and marcato, and there is no need to connect the lines strictly. For example, the left hand's DADC in measures 18-19 (beats 3-4) can even be played somewhat staccato, cut short; in fact, by proceeding with such a rigid image, one can express dignity and discipline.
For the first half, measure 4 can be considered a peak point, and for the second half, measure 23 can serve as a peak point.
