There are two types of Courante: the French style and the Italian style. The Italian-style Courante (also known as Corrente) is written in 3/4 or 3/8 time and proceeds at a fast tempo.
In contrast, the French-style Courante is written in 3/2 or 6/4 time and does not proceed at a fast tempo. Since this Courante is in the French style, a slower tempo is appropriate; I feel that approximately half note = 74 is suitable, as a result of considering the speed of ornaments and sixteenth notes.
While the word 'Courante' indeed means 'running,' a tempo that does not convey a sense of busyness is more fitting for the French-style Courante. The French Courante was not a dance of physically fast movements, but rather a dance intended to showcase the king's intellect and refinement. It should by no means evoke a sense of urgency; instead, please consider it a dance that conveys a solid sense of dignity when you perform it.
