Rondo Allegro - Piu allegro in E-flat major, 6/8 time

Rondo-sonata form. Waking from a dream, the piano plays the lively main theme, followed by the orchestra, which also plays the main theme with joy. Maintaining this momentum, a virtuosic piano solo enters (m. 42) and ascends. After reaching the peak in the high register, the tension is smoothly released with a diminuendo, and a gentle, mellow musical idea appears (dolce, m. 49). At m. 72, a new musical idea appears again marked dolce, and at m. 78, dolce is written in once more. Although this musical idea (from m. 72 onwards) is in the dominant key of B-flat major and its thematic character is not particularly prominent, it has traditionally been interpreted as a subordinate theme. The author considers the entire section from approximately m. 49 to m. 93 as a group of subordinate themes, given the persistent marking of dolce three times in this vicinity and the distinct character of the musical idea from m. 49. Subsequently, the main theme is played with various expressive nuances, concluding with a bright and spirited flourish.
