Rondo. Allegretto moderato - Prestissimo 2/4 time, C major
This piece is in rondo-sonata form. Over the arpeggiated chords played by the right hand, reminiscent of sounds flowing from a spring, the left hand, crossing over, sings a song of the earth, as if emerging from its origin. The main theme section is instructed to sustain the pedal for a long duration, creating a striking contrast with other sections where the pedal is not used. Transitions based on the theme's motifs are also played with an ethereal sound produced by the pedal, and at measure 113, the theme returns with heightened joy. It then shifts to C minor, becoming the second episode, where waves of triplets intertwine, and the theme unfolds heroically. After an ethereal sound of arpeggios is woven at pp, the scene suddenly opens up, and the theme appears at a moving ff. As it culminates in the joyful third episode (from measure 345), a mysterious tranquility briefly descends like a fleeting moment, leading to the coda. It concludes brilliantly, employing virtuosic techniques such as octave glissandos (which, on modern pianos with heavier keys, may also be played as scales divided between both hands*) and trills while playing the melody.
