Movement III: A-flat minor, 4/4 time, Funeral March

A three-part form funeral march in which a four-measure musical idea characterized by an anacrusis and dotted rhythm, along with its development, recurs after a middle section.

In the main section, after modulating to B minor (the parallel minor of the relative major, C-flat major, enharmonically reinterpreted) and then to its relative major, D major, the music converges to the tonic key via a double dominant of A-flat minor sharing two common tones. The middle section is in the parallel major, A-flat major.
