Second Movement, A major, 3/4 time

Throughout the movement, three voices form the basic texture. Considering Mozart's deep inclination towards Baroque music at the time, this could be described as being in the style of a trio sonata.

It consists of an A major theme ornamented with a circling figuration, and a section (from m. 17) characterized by ornamentation on A in the parallel minor, F-sharp minor, and features an improvisatory section (from m. 24) with 32nd-note passages. The F-sharp minor theme reappears (from m. 32), and after an improvisatory transitional passage, the opening theme returns (from m. 44). Finally, the minor theme appears transposed to the tonic key of A major.
