A work from 1787, when Mozart was 31 years old. This is one of the few piano pieces composed by Mozart in this year, following the creation of the grand opera The Marriage of Figaro in the previous year and Don Giovanni in the same year. A beautiful, melancholic melody unfolds over a simple 6/8 accompaniment. Various free musical ideas develop in different keys, framed by an eight-bar theme. Mozart's extraordinary talent is particularly evident in the flowing F major section, which contains numerous chromatic passages.
